Cultural Connection Initiatives

The main objective behind the Cultural Connection program is fostering cultural exchange, promoting understanding of Ghanaian traditions, and celebrating significant cultural milestones.

This is the organization's efforts to celebrate and share Ghanaian culture with the broader Nova Scotian community through various events such as our summer events, Christmas/New Year events and the Ghanaian Independence Day events. These events may include traditional Ghanaian music and dance, authentic cuisine, cultural displays, and educational activities.

Senior Support Program

The Senior Support Program encompasses the organization's efforts to celebrate, honour and play our part in caring for and supporting our elders within the Nova Scotian community. Through various events, we hope to support Ghanaian-Nova Scotian Seniors in our community in the development and sustenance of their social connections and active lifestyle. We have an African proverb that states “A village without the elderly is like a well without water”, highlighting the important role the elderly play in any society.

Newcomer Support Program

This program aims to create a welcoming and supportive environment for newcomers, including families, individuals and students (especially as the new school year commences), from Ghana and other African communities in Nova Scotia. Key activities will include orientation sessions, establishing a buddy/ host family system, educational sessions on immigration process, and how to access services and supports in Nova Scotia.

We hope to facilitate the smooth integration of newcomers, particularly students and families, into Canadian society and orient them on navigating the day-to-day life in Nova Scotia by providing them with essential information, supports, and a sense of belonging within the community.

"Takes a village to raise a child" Program

The "Takes a Village to Raise a Child" Program is our collective effort to support the upbringing and development of our children. Through mentorship, educational initiatives, cultural activities, and social support networks, the program aims to create a nurturing environment where children can thrive emotionally, academically, and culturally. By fostering strong connections within the community and promoting collaborative parenting approaches, the program seeks to instill values of respect, responsibility, and resilience in the younger generation, ensuring they grow up to become confident of their identity and contributing members of their community.
